Nourishing Livestock, Sustaining the Planet

At ReFeed, we partner with leading food manufacturers to convert surplus food into high-quality, nutritious feed for swine. Our sustainable practices ensure consistent, balanced diets for healthier pigs and a greener planet.

A Legacy of Farming. A Future in Sustainability.

ReFeed Innovations was born out of Swinford Farms—a multi-generational hog operation rooted in Hillsdale, Indiana, since 1920.

What started as 90 acres and a few hogs grew over the decades into a thriving farm guided by Carl Swinford, whose values of stewardship, grit, and “leave the land better than you found it” still shape everything we do.

Today, Carl’s grandsons—Tanner and Tyler Smith—carry that legacy forward, not just through farming, but by rethinking how the entire food system works.

In 2024, they launched ReFeed Innovations to tackle one of agriculture’s biggest problems: food waste.

ReFeed takes surplus food from manufacturers and transforms it into balanced livestock feed—supporting animal health, cutting waste, and building a more sustainable food cycle from the ground up.

We’re proud to carry on a tradition that’s over a century old—just with a few more sugar cubes and a lot more pigs.

We collaborate with food manufacturers to gather surplus food that would otherwise go to waste.
